MagSafe Battery Wallet (In Progress)
INTRODUCTION
I. Like. MagSafe.
It’s just… such a cool concept.
Whenever I want to charge my phone just plop the wireless charger on and it never loses a charge. If I want to put my car around face height to help me with navigation I can plop it on a MagSafe mount and quicky disconnect and reconnect whenever I want to.
That got me thinking… What if I had a MagSafe powerbank that was ALSO my wallet.
Genius… I can already smell the fame and fortune from this idea. I already have a Ridge Wallet, so why don’t I make something similar and make it power my phone as well? Never run out of charge in any situation that I’m in.
This project documents my journey to creating my very own MagSafe Battery Wallet.
Inspiration
A lot of my inspiration comes from the Apple MagSafe powerbank and the Ridge Wallet. As someone who uses my phone rather frequently throughout the day I would love to make sure that wherever I go I have a charge.
Adding another thing to carry is just a liability. What if I forget to bring this thing? Now I go my entire day without a reliable way to charge my phone and suffer a bit of “range anxiety.”
What are my essentials whenever I go out? Phone, AirPods Pro, Keys and Wallet. It would be rather difficult to incorporate my keys and a powerbank into the same device but doing a wallet and a powerbank seems a lot more doable. The wallet already is in the shape of a battery so I just need to create the housing around it.
Schematics
On the left is a sketchup of my initial battery wallet.
I wanted to implement a layer-like design so I could isolate and focus on reducing the size of individual regions as much as possible.
